SHIT... [13 Aug 2005|02:09pm]

this fucking sucks. i've been waiting to see ED for a year and they're doing their farewell tour and hitting san francisco on the 16th. my boyfriend has never seen them AND its our anniversary, but now i'm in san diego and they just had their UCSD show CANCELLED because the cafe is unfit for people or some shit....GAAAAAAAAAAH! so now my boyfriend has two tickets for the SF show and i'm not going to be there.
this is just lame...

sorry for the vent.

i have been looking for information or albums from some of these following bands and i would be greatly appreciative if you could help me out, even if it's just to tell me that these things are horribly OOP so i can sit at home and cry. if you want i can buy them from you or trade you some cool canadian stuff that you might not have been able to get ahold of.

thanks for helping me out!

Wow. I suppose everyone's seen this:

Hello everyone,
I don't know if you have heard but we were recently hit with the worst kind of hurt a band could suffer. No one has lost an arm or died of a drug overdose, but we have had to take a huge step backwards. The story is as follows: Four days into tour supporting our fourth record ENGINEDOWN hit a huge snag. Our van/trailer/lives were stolen while we were sleeping in our beds at a Red Roof Inn. The thieves obviously had no idea what they were getting into, or maybe they did. Somewhere in Houston, TX someone is walking around with thousands of Enginedown t-shirts, all our records, merch, equipment, computers -including all photos, artwork, video footage, and paperwork archiving six years of being a band. We have always found our ways out of snags by trying to be positive and remembering that we only do this to share music with others. This obviously is the biggest "snag" we have had to deal with as it has put a quick halt to our goals. We sat in a hotel for three days on cell phone
s (luckily we had those in the room) trying to decide if we could even recover from such a financial and emotional loss. So.............it is now a week later and we are sitting in a rental van with plans to fight the good fight. Yes it has been a huge loss and we owe more money then we can comprehend, but this band is much bigger to us than a financial investment. We still own the music and the shows are still booked for this tour.

The best way to support our band is to buy our new record or come out to the show in your town. In response to numerous requests from people wanting to pitch in financially, we have set up a PayPal account which can be found through this link http://lookoutrecords.com/pop.php?news_id=193. The account name is "band@enginedown.com." Anything helps. In addition to the overwhelming support that we've already received, we have set up this account in order to try to offset some of our $50,000 losses not covered by insurance.

It is our mission right now to play these songs live. We have been looking forward to doing this all year and won't be derailed by some thieving bastards.

We apologize for canceling the El Paso and Tucson shows. We would have much rather been there than stuck in our room at the Red Roof Inn in Houston. We are just excited that we can finish this tour and keep moral up between five friends through such a crazy time. Leaving the haze of the whole experience in Houston behind, we are feeling more driven to play now than we ever have been.

Thanks for caring,
Keeley, Jason, Jonathan, Cornbread and Travis.

That's awful. These guys are some of the nicest in the world and some dipshit douchebag goes and steals their trailor. Fucking awful.

i went to the orlando, fl show on sunday. i am a huge fan of denali, and i already knew that the lead singer was maura davis' brother. i had only heard a few songs from engine down before that night, but seeing them live made me adore them completely. i'm trying to find this one song...i was trying to listen to the lyrics he was singing and it went something like, "how can you say you are content with me?"...something along those line..don't find it offensive if i'm wrong completely.

help anyone?

Thoughts? [18 Jul 2004|06:42pm]

So has anyone heard the new Engine Down songs? You can stream two of the new ones off the website (www.enginedown.com), and I have video of them playing other new songs live. I'm REALLY disappointed. Well, maybe not that much....."Cover" is just a horrendous quasi-pop-punk song, that if it had been my first exposure to ED, I would have hated them. The one after that isn't too bad, but it's pretty much a ripoff of the Demure sound, same with the song I have video of.

I'm losing faith in this band. When they started out they were like Sleepytime Trio, who I adore and would name my first born after, and they've evolved quite a bit, reinventing themselves on each album. I love each album....Under the Pretense, To Bury Within, Demure, etc., but it just seems as if the new album will be either a copy of Demure, which I don't want, or some crappy album that echoes the bad songwriting of that "Cover" song. With them signing to Lookout (I have a ridiculous devotion to Lovitt records), and these new songs, I fear that a few months into the future, I will have given up on them. Which really sucks, because they are probably one of the most consistent bands I've listened to over the past few years. I'll always listen to their 3 albums and treasure their vinyl that I own, but if things go as I anticipate, I won't be a conscious Engine Down fan for much longer.

Your thoughts on the new songs? On the current state of Engine Down? Discuss. Let's try to keep this community at least somewhat alive.
